I am a butterfly over the ocean.
Baby blue wings outstretched over the sea,
Unforgiving waves crashing ruthlessly
Reaching every inch of the sky
Barring the air surrounding me.
I am a sunflower in a wildfire.
Petals of gold blossoming in the heat,
Flames of destruction engulf the trees,
Desperate to consume nature’s children-
Stop cold at the mud by my feet.
I am a candle beneath a hurricane.
White smoke emitting from my wick,
Spiraling winds and rains scream and kick
Soaking every inch in their reach-
Yet my flame continues to flick.
I remain delicate in the midst of destruction.
A contradiction of strength and fragility
Untouched by the persistent hostility
Of an environment so cruel.
Only I determine my nobility-
My essence is mine to rule.
